Studio Series Description
The Studio Series name is inspired by some of the studio greats in Los Angeles and Nashville who preferred the bowl-style mouthpieces for their depth of sound. These tuba mouthpieces feature:
- A more pronounced bowl-shaped design combined with a smooth, carefully crafted funnel throat transition.
- This combination provides players with a rich and full depth of sound, typically associated with the bowl style.
- The enhanced throat transition significantly improves the mouthpiece’s overall responsiveness and flexibility, making it much more versatile and noticeably easier to play compared to many other bowl-style mouthpieces.
Specifications
The Studio Series comes in two depths:
- Studio D: Designed for 4/4 or larger contrabass tubas, delivering a deep, powerful sound.
- Studio S: Designed around large bass tubas but also works very well with certain contrabass tubas where more articulation is needed.
All Studio Series tuba mouthpieces feature:
- Throat size: 8.51mm / .335in
- Rim width: 8.08mm / .318in
Rim Inner Diameters:
- 220: Rim ID 32.20mm / 1.268in
- 250: Rim ID 32.50mm / 1.279in
- 280: Rim ID 32.80mm / 1.291in
- 300: Rim ID 33.00mm / 1.299in
- 320: Rim ID 33.20mm / 1.308in
Backbores
- TU1: The most resistant option, offering excellent slotting on very “open playing” instruments and confident slotting in the high registers.
- TU3: The most open option, allowing for the easiest airflow. Ideal for large ensembles on most instruments and for bass tubas with a resistant low register.
Recommendations:
- TU2 or TU3: Best for most large ensemble settings.
- TU1 and TU2: Suitable for solo or quintet work, depending on the resistance of your instrument.
